Creating an Index

  1.  Break a big catalog into manageable sections.
  2. Put all sections in a folder
  3. Create a book and put these sections in the book in the right order. 
    (Watch this video on how to create books.)
  4. Save the book.
  5. Login to catsy.
  6. Click on the flyout menu and click on "Create Index".



  7. Select your Language and click "Next"



  8. Choose your index term from the pulldown.
  9. Click on the button click on "Start" 

  10. Click into the Master page
  11. Create a text frame the size of the margins

    Right click on the frame, go to  Text frame options


     (a) In the popup, in the top section set the Column Number to 2.


     (b) You should see 2 columns in the text frame

  12.  Go to Window -> Types & Tables -> Index


  13.  (a) In the index pallet, click on the "Generate Index" icon in the bottom of this panel as shown in the screen.


     (b) Select "Include Book Documents"



     (c) Say Yes for the question "Do you want the index to include items in overset text?"
     (d) You should now see the cursor loaded with the index. Now, press shift and place the cursor on the page.
     Your Mouse Pointer should Look Like this: 
  14. Click in the text frame. You will see the Index populate 
  15. Copy the Space in between the record and the page number and pull up the find and replace menu (Ctrl+F or Cmnd+F for mac)



  16. Paste the space into the "Find What" section and type "^y" in the "Change to". Click change all.


  17. Open the "Paragraph Styles" tab and double click "Index level 1"

  18. Select the "Tabs" section on the righthand side
  19. Select the right justified button on the top
  20. Click in the ruler box right in front of the  arrow
  21. In the Leader text box, type "."
  22. Click "Repeat"



  23. Save your index.
